How to View Windows Update Policies Applied to PC in Windows 11

This post describes steps one can take to view configured policies for Windows Update in Windows 11.

Windows Update is a feature that comes with Windows to help download and install updates, improves system’s security and performance, and more.

If your computer is not automatically downloading the latest updates, there might be issues with how your system is configured and problem with Windows update policies that are preventing your device from receiving updates.

In some environments, policies are used to control Windows devices. These policies can help you manage single-user devices, multi-user devices, education devices, kiosks, billboards, factory machines, and more.

A good place to look and see which Windows Update policies are applied to a machine is to use Group Policy Editor and navigating to the path below:

Group Policy path: […]/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/ Windows Updates

There you’ll fine all the Windows polices that are configured for Windows devices.

How to view configured policies for Windows update in Windows 11

As described above, Windows Update helps secure your device by downloading the latest security updates and improvement packages for your devices.

In previous versions of Windows, to view Windows Update policies that are applied to a machine, one must use the Group Policy Editor app.

With Windows 11, users can now see Windows Update policies applied to a machine simply by using the Windows Settings app and going to Windows Update.

Below is how to do that.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from its System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. On Windows Settings app, click the Windows Update on the left, then select the Advanced options tile on the right pane as highlighted in the image below.

On the Windows Update -> Advanced options settings pane, select the Configured update policies tile.

On the Windows Update > Advanced options -> Configured update policies, under Policies set on your device, you should see all the policies that are configured for your device.

That should do it! You can now close Windows Settings app.
