How to Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users steps to enable or disable fast startup mode in Windows 11 to make Windows boot up even faster everytime you start up your computer.

On most systems that are compatible, Fast Startup is enabled by default and is available on most laptops and some desktop PCs. Fast Startup combines features of a normal cold shutdown and the hibernate mode. When Fast Startup is enabled, before the PC is shutdown, Windows keeps the kernel loaded and the system sessions running while keeping the current system state saved to the hibernation file, then it turns of the computer.

The next time you startup your computer, Windows does not have to reload the kernel, device drivers, and system state again. These are already in the hibernate file and ready to be loaded quickly.

In hibernate mode, your work and desktop sessions are saved on the system hard drive, allowing Windows to completely shutdown, and resume to your previous session when the computer is turned back on.
