The new Task Manager has been redesigned to match the new Windows 11 design principles. It also comes with a new feature called Efficiency Mode which is helpful in that it allows you to limit apps consuming high resources so that the system can give priority to other apps and processes which will lead to faster foreground responsiveness and better energy efficiency.
You can apply Efficiency mode either by clicking on the command bar on the Processes page or right-clicking on the process.

Enable or disable efficiency mode in Windows 11
As mentioned above, efficiency mode with Task Manager allows you to limit apps consuming high resources so that the system can give priority to other apps and processes which will lead to faster foreground responsiveness and better energy efficiency.
Here’s how to use it.
First, open the Task Manager app. You can also use the keyboard shortcut ( Ctrl + Shift + Esc ) to launch the Task Manager app.
When the Task Manager app opens, click on Processes on the left side.
There are two ways to enable the efficiency mode for apps and processes.
- Select the app or process and highlight it. Then click on the Efficiency mode button on the command bar to toggle on or off.
- Right-click on the app or process, and click on Efficiency mode in the context menu to toggle on
Right-click to turn it on.
If the Efficiency mode option is greyed out, it generally means that it’s a core Windows process, and throttling it might affect the performance of the system.
If turning on efficiency mode, click on OK or Turn on Efficiency mode to confirm.
That should do it! You can close the Task Manager app.
