How to Share a Folder with Everyone in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users how to create folder shares in Windows 11 for everyone to have full access. When Windows 11 shares are created with everyone having full access, everybody will be able to access the shared location without prompting for passwords or logins.

This also gives everyone rights to create, delete and modify folders and files saved in that shared folder. This setup is perfect for locations where users are given access to temporarily store content and quickly move to other secure locations.

Since everyone has rights to delete, create and modify, it’s not a suitable place to store private content for a long, but a good place to create and share information among everyone, and without restricting access.

In a business environment where all accounts are managed on a centralized system, all user who have access there will be able to get to this location. On a single computer, all accounts will also be able to access the shares.

To get started with creating Windows 11 folder shares, follow the steps below:

How to create a folder to share in Windows 11

If you don’t already have a folder to share with everyone, you must first create it. If you do have a folder, then simply go and share it.

For this tutorial, we’re going to create a new folder to share with everyone. In Windows 11, go to where you want to create the folder, then click New ==> Folder from the File Explorer toolbar as highlighted below:

Then provide a new folder the new folder you just created.

How to create a share in Windows 11

Now that you’ve created the folder to share, follow the steps below to share it so that everyone can have full access to it. There are many ways you can share a folder in Window. For this post, we’re going to show you the proper way to do it.

Click on the Start menu, then search for “Computer Management” as highlighted below. Next, click on the relevant result to open the app.

When the Computer Management app opens, expand Shared Folders and right-click Shares, then select New Share. Or click Action on the toolbar and select New Share.

A new share wizard will launch. Follow the wizard to create a new share in Windows 11.

On the next screen, you’ll be ask to provide the folder path of the share you want to created. Click the Browse button to browse and select the folder you created above.

When you browse, select the folder you created previously.

Next, you will be prompted to create a name for the share. You can keep the name assigned or type in a new one to match the folder name.

After that, choose the kind of permissions you want for the shared folder. There are pre-defined sets of permissions. However, since we want all to have full access, select Customize permissions on the shared folder permissions dialog box.

Then select Everyone and check the allow box for Full Control. Click OK when done.

After that, click Finish to complete the wizard.

That should do it! You have created a shared folder in Windows 11 for everyone with full access.

Now that the folder is shared, for users to get to it, they will need to specify the computer name followed by the shared folder name:


In our case above, \\COMPUTERNAME\PublicDocument

Replace COMPUTERNAME with the computer used in your environment.
