How to Disable Animations in Windows 11

Windows 11 comes with many new features and visual effects, including animation and fading effects that make Windows 11 desktop looks great, but can add some performance hit by adding a slight delay to some activities and actions.

For older computers or ones that are built with less performance, turning off animations might help with performance and speed, and the steps below show you how to do that.

A not so new feature that also comes with Windows 11 is Windows animation effects. This feature is also in previous versions of Windows. If you want to keep it, great, but removing it will help with some PCs.

How to turn off animation and improve performance in Windows 11

Tuning off animation effects in Windows 11 can improve performance. The benefits for using Windows animations and other visual effects might not be noticeable, but improvements will be noticed when it’s off.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from its System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Accessibility, select Visual effects on the right pane of your screen shown in the image below.

On the Visual effects settings pane, toggle the button for Animation effects to the Off position to turn disable.

That’s should do it! Your changes to apply immediately. In some instances, you may have to reboot Windows 11 for a full change to apply.

How to enable Animation effects in Windows 11

If you change your mind about the benefits of turning off Animation effects, you can reverse the changes above by going to Start ==> Settings ==> Accessibility ==> Visual effects and turn on Animations effects.
