How to Add a World Clock in Ubuntu Linux

This post describes steps one can take to show multiple clocks on the top bar in Ubuntu Linux.

Ubuntu Linux will show the current date and time of the local time zone you select during the setup. In some cases, you may want to show additional clocks to display the local time of another cities or countries.

If you frequently have meetings or connect with people from another time zones, and you want to quickly find out the local time of the city they’re in, you can add additional clocks to the top bar area to see the local time of the other time zones.

Additional clocks can easily be accessed using the tool-top or fly-out when you click on the date and time displayed on the top bar.

Below is how to show additional clocks in Ubuntu Linux.

How display multiple times in Ubuntu Linux

As mentioned above, you can add one additional clock to Ubuntu Linux top bar area find out the local time of another city of country.

To do that, use the steps below:

To show multiple clock and times for other locations in Ubuntu Linux, you’ll need to install Gnome Clocks application. It is not installed by default in Ubuntu Linux.

Most distributions come with Clocks installed by default. If yours does not, you may need to install it using Ubuntu Software.

Open Ubuntu Software, search for Clocks and install Gnome Clocks as highlighted below.

Once installed, click the clock on the top bar. Next, click the Add world clocks… button under the calendar to launch Clocks.

In the Clocks window, click the Add World Clock button or press CTRL + N to add a new city.

Start typing the name of the city into the search.

Select the correct city or the closest location to you from the list. Press Add to finish adding the city.

When you are done, you should see the clocks you added on the fly-out window of the clock in Ubuntu.
